Bilingual romps feature
BILINGUAL yesterday spoke one language - class - a near three-length win, after being eased close home by hot Panamanian jockey Dick Cardenas in the one-mile Errol 'Big Sub' Subratie Memorial overnight allowance feature race.
The 1000 Guineas and Jamaica Oaks runner-up made light work of her 11 rivals, ticking off a second consecutive victory at a mile, clocking 1:37.4, considerably improving on the 1:39.0 she had posted a month ago.
Cardenas made his move with BILINGUAL off the turn, entering the lane three-wide of GOLD MINER and WONG DON, who had a battle royal on the lead from the gate.
SHINING LIGHT tried to make a race of it, taking the shortest route into the straight and formed a quartet at the top of the straight.
However, 7-5 favourite BILINGUAL dug in and raced clear of her five-year-old rival after a brief duel, closing the 11-race card with a three-timer for Cardenas, two of which were for the filly's trainer, Anthony Nunes.
Cardenas and Nunes had teamed up to win the previous race, the 1200-metre Ronron Trophy, with RUNALLDAY, who closed from off the pace set by favourite LOOSE CANNON.
The Panamanian opened the programme with Richard Azan's two-year-old HONEY RYDA, who went off at 1-2 going 1100 metres. His three-timer extended an incredible run - 23 winners in 10 race days since returning to the saddle locally on September 16.
Trainer Donovan Plummer also had two winners on the programme, both ridden by three-kilo claiming apprentice, Oneil Beckford - SAMORA at 2-1 in the fourth and FIERY PATH, a stinging 41-1 outsider in the seventh.
Racing continues at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
