Rusea's march on in Ben Francis KO

Coach of Rusea's Vassell Reynolds is pleased with his team's performances so far this season, having qualified for the semi-finals of both the daCosta Cup and Ben Francis Cup competitions.

Having also advanced to the FLOW Super Cup, Reynolds' boys have now achieved the first phase of their objectives, with yesterday's 2-0 defeat of Holmwood Technical in their ISSA/FLOW Ben Francis Knockout competition at Jarrett Park, the latest positive in a successful run so far.

Reynolds, who won the FLOW Super Cup last year with Wolmer's Boys School is on a quest to again lift the title; this time with Rusea's. He told The Gleaner that they will be dealing with things on a game-by-game basis, always prioritising the next fixture, without getting ahead of themselves and trying to focus on too many things at once.

"The target was really to qualify for the semi-finals of all the competitions. Now we need to regroup, assess our performance and see what sort of work we need to put in. As usual, we want to take it game by game, and so right now we'll be focusing on the semi-finals of the Ben Francis Cup," said Reynolds.

When asked about the performance of the team in yesterday's game, Reynolds said a few tactical adjustments proved crucial for them, while noting that his boys played to instructions, which resulted in a good performance.

"I thought the team played very well," Reynolds said. "We did a bit of tweaking and we would have spoken about the importance of getting a good performance today, and I thought the guys really lifted their game."

STUBBORNNESS

Both teams showed a lot of stubbornness, with the players preferring to sit behind the ball during the opening exchanges.

Rusea's broke the deadlock on the stroke of half time from a well-orchestrated team goal, which was eventually finished by Daniel Reid to send them into the break with a largely deserved advantage.

Things went from bad to worse for Holmwood as they conceded the second just two minutes after play resumed. This was off the right boot of Nazime Matalie, who struck a screaming volley in the top right corner of the goal from outside the box.
