STETHS ready to lift Super Cup, says Wedderburn

Coach of St. Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) Omar 'Rambo' Wedderburn described Tuesday's daCosta Cup semi-finals defeat as a stumble, while noting that his charges are fully focused on today's ISSA/FLOW Super Cup final against Kingston College (KC), which has become even more significant considering it's their only chance of silverware for this season.

"Yes, it will [be more significant] because we don't have a title for the 2017 season, and this is the only title we can, get so we will have to give it our all. We try as best as possible to keep the guys focused for this game because our philosophy is to win any finals we make it to," said Wedderburn.

Responding to questions around any possible concern going into today's final as well as the planned strategy against an equally wounded KC team, Wedderburn said he knows the strengths of his team and what they can do if they show up and play.

"It would be foolish to attack your opponents and don't know their weakness. It's a game we have to fight hard to win, so we are prepared for this game, and just have to play smart and concentrate," said Wedderburn.

STETHS have been the most consistent rural area team in the FLOW Super Cup, making it to the semi-finals since its inception in 2014.

When asked about his take on the sentiments of KC coach Ludlow Bernard, who said that rural area teams are still playing second fiddle to their urban counterparts, Wedderburn said his focus is squarely on securing victory for his team today and not on anything that his opposing coach had to say.

"My business is for my players to go out there and carry out the instructions that we want them to," added Wedderburn.

He was also quick to push aside their heavy 5-2 daCosta Cup semi-final loss on Tuesday to Rusea's.

"It's going to be a different game. We had a terrible game on Tuesday that gave everyone in St Elizabeth a headache. We just have to come through all the mistakes and get it right for this game," said Wedderburn who underlined that his team is heading to Sabina Park in full confidence.
