Thwaites captures Albert Seaga Memorial

Brett Thwaites said that being crowned the first winner of the Albert Seaga Memorial Skeet Shooting tournament was special because of his close friendship with the competition's namesake, which lasted 25 years.

Thwaites won with 98 points, ahead of Raymond McMaster, who finished on 97 points, at the inaugural tournament held on Sunday at the Jamaica Skeet Club in Portmore.

The overall champion said he was a close friend of Albert Seaga, who served as Jamaica Skeet Club President for many years. Seaga died last year.

"He and I were very close friends. To be the first winner means a lot because of the strong sentimental attachment," Thwaites told The Gleaner.

"The result appeared effortlessly, to be fair, but it was not very easy," he added.

Thwaites, who is the defending champions of the PWD Sporting Clays tournament, will not be available to defend the title at next Sunday's event in Worthy Park, St Catherine, because he will be away for two weeks.

"I am the defending champion of the Sporting Clay but will miss the tournament. I am going away (overseas). I will take a break from competition until next January," he shared.
