Schoolboys dominate NCU Wellness 5k

Cross Keys schoolboy Rohealo Gregory led a total domination by schoolboys in the annual Northern Caribbean University (NCU) 5K Wellness run held at Brooks Park last weekend.

Gregory won in 18:20:03 ahead of the first adult male, Kemar Jones, who ran unattached. Manchester High's 16-year-old Jordan Jones was third in 18:39.0.Christiana High's Derrick Tyme was fourth with adult male, Damion Chambers, taking fifth. Places fifth to 29th were all taken by schoolboys. At 11th in one of the biggest performances of the meet was Garvey Maceo's 12-year old Orlando Lovelace, who clocked a good 20:09:44.

Christiana were the top school with 12 of their entrants placing within the top 23, including taking four spots from sixth to ninth. Knox finished a creditable third, with Manchester fourth and Garvey Maceo fifth.

McKenzie rebounds, Duwell dominates in 5K walk

Jamaica's top road female walker this year, Natasha McKenzie, rebounded from her loss at the Mico 5K two weeks ago to win the NCU Wellness 5K walk last weekend.

McKenzie, who was fourth overall, won in 34:29:15 to beat defending champion and former Jamaica representative Olivia McKoy, who faded away in the last kilometre to post 36:23:42. Third was Heather Baxter, age 53, with Stacey Ann McConnell and Kenecia McDonald rounding out the top five.

The male division was predictably dominated by the fastest male walker over 5K in Jamaica this year, Duwell Allen. Allen posted an impressive 27:35.62, four minutes better than teammate Gladstone Johnson. Mical Forsythe was third in 34:21:14. Gosford Lawrence Sr of Meadowvale SDA was the best-placed senior, posting 40:59:51.

Interestingly, following the early-morning NCU 5K, Allen travelled to Spanish Town to compete in the afternoon at the GC Foster College 5K and posted an impressive 28:10:55.

Knox win boys, girls Prep Schools finals

Knox won both the male and female sections of the 2017 Howie Chin Memorial Prep School Football competition in Mandeville earlier this week.

In the boys' final, Antwan James' 20th-minute strike was enough for Knox secure the title with a 1-0 win over the defending champions Mt St Joseph.

In the girls' final, the road to the title was harder, but Knox also dealt a similar blow to another defending champion, defeating Belair 2-1 on penalties. Both had played to a 1-1 draw after regulation and extra time. Britany Riley had given Belair a first-minute 1-0 lead before Destiny Maitland evened up the contest in the 18th minute.

Semi-finalists decided in Manchester KO

Defending champions Ricam as well as former champions Mile Gully have advanced to the semi-finals of the Manchester Football Association/Brumalia House knockout competition following the final set of quarter-final games earlier this week.

Hillstars and Los Perfectos joined defending champions Ricam and Mile Gully, who had already booked their spots from the previous week.

Hillstars journeyed to Alligator Pond and triumphed 3-2 on penalties after the two had battled to a regulation and extra time 1-1 result. Oshane Nelson had raised the hopes of the home side scoring in the 10th minute for a 1-0 lead, which they kept until the 69th minute when Jermaine Henry equalised for Hillstars.

Los Perfectos also secured their semi-final berth via penalty kicks, eventually defeating Downs 6-5. The two had finished 1-1 after Jason Givens (Los Perfectos) and Alburn Facey (Downs) scored.

Manchester High to host first Run/Walk

Manchester High will stage its first-ever 5K Run/Walk road races on Sunday, December 10.

Start time will be 6 a.m. and the route is from Ward Avenue to West Road and then Greenvale Road to the school's premises. The event is already advertised to be under the patronage of its Olympians - Nesta Carter, Natoya Goule, Omar McLeod, Elaine Thompson and Sherone Simpson.

Ascot advance to INSPORTS semi-finals

Ascot Primary advanced to the semi-finals of the INSPORTS Portmore Primary Football League after they they swamped Kensington Primary 9-0 in their last preliminary-round game at the Portsmouth field.

With the win, Ascot ended the preliminaries with 10 points and second in Zone One, the same as defending champions Bridgeport. Ascot, however, have a superior goal difference (plus 10) to Bridgeport's plus six.

Garfield Gillespie scored a hat-trick for Ascot. Larrington Bennett and Terron Williams scored doubles while Chadwick Edwards and Maliki Salmon got a goal each. Portsmouth topped the Zone with 11 points from five games. In Zone Two, Naggo Head topped the tables with maximum 12 points from four games, and Waterford placed second on nine points.

The semi-finals will be played on Tuesday, December 5, at the Portsmouth Primary field. Portsmouth will face Waterford at 10 a.m. before Naggo Head take on Ascot at 11:30 a.m.

Portmore Gas shock Konnexx 5-1

Portmore Gas put in an impressive display to spank defending champions Konnexx 5-1 in an INSPORTS/Sunshine Snacks Portmore Business House match in Naggo Head recently.

Portmore Gas were spurred on by Maurice Clarke's two goals, while, Micheal Stewart, Shamar Weir and Deron Wilson scored a goal apiece.

The win pushed Portmore Gas to a joint leadership of Zone Two on 10 points, the same as Petcom, who blanked C&S 3-0. Olando Dyre scored twice while Raymond Thompson got the other goal. Meanwhile, Wisynco continued their stronghold on Zone One with a league-leading 12 points as they brushed aside Tyre Warehouse 2-1. Norman Bailey and Kirk Newman scored for Wisynco while Lorenzo Dubidon got Tyre Warehouse's consolation goal.

Portsmouth on course for 4-in-a-row

Portsmouth Primary are on course for a record fourth title as they will face Naggo Head in the final of the INSPORT Portmore Netball League.

In semi-final action, Portsmouth defeated Waterford 16-5, while Naggo Head needed extra time to eliminate Ascot 10-8, as both teams were locked 8-8 after regulation time.
