Green, Campbell give Scorpions first day edge over Trinidad
Incisive bowling form fast bowling all-rounder Derval Green and part-time off-spinner John Campbell allowed the Jamaica Scorpions to restrict Trinidad and Tobago Red Force to 243 in their first innings on the first day of their CWI/Digicel Four-day Championship clash at Sabina Park today.
Jamaica were 16 without loss when stumps were drawn with opener Campbell on 14 off 22 deliveries, and Trevon Griffith not out two.
Green, the Scorpions second most successful bowler this season, and who opened the bowling with fast bowler Reynard Leveridge, claimed four for 45, while Campbell, whose off-spin as emerged as an integral part of his game, picked up four for 40.
Leg-spinner Damion Jacobs, one for 90, and debutant fast bowling all-rounder Odean Smith, shared the other wickets to fall.
Leading the way for Trinidad were opener Jeremy Solozano, 62, Ewart Nicholson, 50, and opener Amir Jangoo, 39. Sidelined West Indies wicketkeeper and captain, Denesh Ramdin, scored six.
Jamaica and Trinidad occupied third and second positions, respectively, in the six-team championship heading into this the sixth round.
The tournament is being played over 10 rounds with three-time defending champions and runaway leaders, Guyana Jaguars, starting the round in first position.
