Ramdin, rain ensure Ja, Trinidad clash ends in draw

A defiant unbeaten knock of 52 from former West Indies captain, Denesh Ramdin, along with later afternoon rain and bad light on the final day resulted in the sixth round CWI-Digicel Regional 4-day Championship between the Jamaica Scorpions and Trinidad and Tobago Red Force ending in a draw at Sabina Park this afternoon.

Resuming on 21 for one, and needing another 171 runs to make Jamaica bat again, Ramdin, who faced 167 deliveries, anchored three crucial middle-order partnerships to take Trinidad to 163 for six before rain interrupted proceedings shortly after tea.

When the covers were eventually taken off the pitch at 4:30 p.m. and an inspection was done by the umpires, play was eventually called off 15 minutes later.

Leg-spinner Imran Khan, 17 off 80 balls, was the other not out batsman. Fast bowler Reynard Leveridge, with career-best figures of three for 23, was the pick of the Scorpions bowlers.

Trinidad, in their first innings, were dismissed for 243 on the back of 62 from opener Jeremy Solozano and 50 from Ewart Nicholson.

Jamaica, in their response, tallied 535 on the back of 155 from opener John Campbell, and 135 from captain, Paul Palmer.

Jamaica will play away to Windward Islands Volcanoes in their next encounter at the Darren Sammy Cricket Ground, starting on Thursday.
