Tennis Jamaica to decide future early 2018

Tennis Jamaica general secretary Leroy Brown said that plans regarding the future of the association, after the resignation of president John Bailey, will be decided early next year.

Bailey, whose three-year term would have ended in 2019, resigned on Tuesday as he needed more time to tend to other aspects of his life.

Brown has since told The Gleaner that Tennis Jamaica will see out the remainder of the year with first vice-president Aswad Morgan leading the body, as members have other matters to tend to because of the holiday season. He added that no plans for a special general meeting have yet been discussed, as the board will wait until the New Year to address such matters.

"At our meeting when we discussed Mr Bailey's resignation, we appointed first vice- president Aswad Morgan (to run the association). Basically, that is it; he will be in charge of the day-to-day operations of Tennis Jamaica.

No decisions yet

"It's Christmas now; things are sort of tightening up, so we won't make any decisions on anything until into the New Year. We have a temporary leader in the person of Aswad Morgan," Brown said.

Morgan, however, would not be drawn on whether he is interested in the presidency over a long-term period, as he said he would need more time to think through such a decision. Bailey took over from Aubyn Hill as president of Tennis Jamaica in 2012 and has served two terms in the role.
