UPDATED: Davidson: German is the best TT coach I have ever seen
Richard Davidson, whose players have won gold and silver at consecutive stagings of the Caribbean Region Mini and Pre-Cadet Table Tennis Championships, has labelled German Mathias Landfried the best coach he has ever seen.
The assessment follows a two-hour clinic held by Landfried at the Angels Academy in Spanish Town last month. Davidson is hoping that the German will be able to come back to Jamaica.
In a lively two-hour clinic held during a recent visit to the island, he familiarised approximately 40 young Jamaican players with basic technique, service and service returns, and tactics.
"For me, he's the best coach I've ever been around," Davidson said, "and it's just two hours I have ever spent with him, and I'd love to see him come back to Jamaica shortly to expose our children to more of his training experience."
EXTENSIVE EXPERIENCE
Germany is among the sport's elite, and Landfried has extensive experience as a coach in the Bundesliga, which attracts players from all around the world, and in the top division in Croatia.
Davidson said the players at the academy are already trying to put their new knowledge to good use. "I've noticed that they want to try everything," he said.
With an International Table Tennis Federation youth training camp in Peru last year as a barometer, Davidson said: "He impressed me, and I would really want to see him come back and to work with him to get some of his expertise, some of his drills so I can pass it on more effectively."
