Reigning world 110m hurdles champion Omar McLeod has set his sights on breaking both the 60m hurdles and 110m hurdles world records this year.

McLeod, 23, who has a personal best of 12.90 seconds in the 110m hurdles and 7.41 in the 60m hurdles, said both world records of 12.80 and 7.30 are well within his reach this season.

"I am going after the world records in the 60m and the 110m hurdles," said McLeod, after receiving this year's RJRGLEANER Sports Foundation Sportsman of the Year Award last Friday night at the The Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New Kingston.

"I am going to do whatever it takes to break the world records. If it is 12.60, then it is 12.60. We will see," said McLeod. "I am in the best shape of my life because I am improving drastically in the weights room."

TRAINING PROGRESSING WELL

The former Manchester High School and Kingston College athlete, who is set to defend his 60m hurdles title at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in March, added that his training has been going good so far this season because he has improved a lot, especially in the weight room.

"I am going for that world indoor title," McLeod said. "I have PRs (personal best) in every single rep in (weights training) and that's a plus. My speed work is on point, so it is going to be a great year," McLeod said.

The versatile athlete added that he plans on competing in a lot more 100m and 200m events outdoors this season.

McLeod produced a brilliant run to win the gold medal in the 110m hurdles event at the IAAF World Championships in London, England, last August, clocking 13.04 seconds.

He ended the year winning nine of his 12 races in the 110m hurdles, and was unbeaten in the 60m hurdles with six wins.
