MBU lack the desire - Hankinson

Technical director of Montego Bay United (MBU), Timothy Hankinson, has blamed his players' lack of desire to be in the playoffs for yesterday's 1-0 Red Stripe Premier League loss to UWI FC.

"They (UWI) showed they are a playoff team, we showed we are a seventh-place team. It doesn't mean we can't get there, but if we keep playing like that, then people will catch us, and as soon as we go up the ladder, it will be easier to fall down," said a frustrated Hankinson.

"In the second half alon, we must have hit about 20 crosses in their box. In those moments, every white shirt (UWI) is up in the air and every green shirt (MBU) is flat-footed. In my book, that shows a lack of desire so I pin that on us that we don't have the desire to be in the playoffs simple as that," said Hankinson.

The winner came in the 25th minute when Anthony Greenland of UWI FC scored from a low right-side cross.

Things got worse for the hosts as they were reduced to 10 men when their national representative Ladale Richie was shown a red card with 14 minutes to go.

Assistant coach of UWI FC, Andrew Peart, was happy with the win, but said they will have to work on their game after MBU dominated the possession in yesterday's encounter.

"Good result given the proximity of MBU to us on the table. The task now is to accumulate as many points as possible, because we need to solidify our position in the top six," said Peart.

This win lifted UWI FC to fifth place with 35 points, while MBU dropped to eighth in the 12-team table with 31.
