Big run by Ras Emanuel

RAS EMANUEL sat off the pace and got a perfect rail run at the top of the lane, running past the leaders in the 1200-metre overnight allowance event to bring the curtains down on yesterday's nine-race card.

Knocking at the door since returning down in class off a three-month lay-up in February, 8-5 favourite RAS EMANUEL raced fourth while POLLY B and ARMAGEDDON disputed the lead, chased by another speedster, SIMPLY THE BEST.

Running at his lightest in three starts due to apprentice Oneil Scott's six-pound claim, RAS EMANUEL made his move against the rail three furlongs out and fell on the leaders like a ton of bricks coming off the turn.

The six-year-old's crippling move effectively won him the race from two furlongs out with the leaders all running wide, leaving a gaping hole on the inner for RAS EMANUEL to power home.

DYSFUNCTIONAL, running at odds of 11-1 with Dane Nelson, closed with a late flurry inside the last half-furlong. However, RAS EMANUEL, though coming back a bit, had enough in reserve to win by a length and a quarter, clocking 1:12.4.

Meanwhile, Shane Ellis outshone apprentice Anthony Thomas, his rival atop the jockeys' championship race, for the second consecutive meet.

Whereas Thomas went without a winner for back-to-back meets, Ellis, who started the afternoon one win behind, landed a double to wrest the lead from the apprentice.

Ellis won driving finishes aboard BIG BLACK NATION in the fifth at 1200 metres and returned to close his two-timer astride PIANO MAN in the seventh, splitting rivals close home at 1400 metres to nail YO LOVE by a nose at the wire.

Racing continues at Caymanas Park on Wednesday.
