Battle for RSPL top six still hot

The penultimate set of matches in the true league section of the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) that get on the way today, will not only place fans in a quandary as to which match to choose, but will have many questioning their previously-held perceptions of the league.

There will be no Monday night matches this week, a consequence of the need to preserve and give the appearance of fair play, as playing a match a day later could provide a clear advantage. All matches will, therefore, start at 4 p.m. Questions were asked about the format of the competition, the competitiveness of the league, and the quality of play. At this stage of the competition, a lot of those questions are being answered in a way that would give the organisers satisfaction.

As it relates to the battle for the top six, four teams can be considered safe in leaders and favourites Portmore United, defending champions Arnett Gardens in second place, third-place Tivoli Gardens, and fourth-place Waterhouse. Five teams are still in with a mathematical chance of earning one of the remaining two positions, and in pole position for those two, are fifth-place Harbour View and sixth-place Cavalier.
