Calabar High School assistant coach Omar Hawes said that the Red Hills Road based school is ready to begin its defence of its title at this year's ISSA Grace/Kennedy Boys and Girls Athletics Championships , starting today at the National Stadium.

"The team is in high spirits as they are physically and mentally ready, and are highly motivated. Injury concerns are very minimal and the team is raring to go," he said.

After a dominant season where they have ruled supreme in all meets they have entered, Hawes stated that this team is much better than the one that edged Kingston College by two points last year to win the Boys title. "Generally, this team is much stronger than last year's winning one, but the guys will still have to execute well on all five days of the Championships if they are to deliver," said Hawes.

When asked why this year's team stands out above last year's Hawes said, "They definitely have taken things a bit more seriously on the track and also in their general behaviour. We are basically doing what we have been doing all season and we are hoping that the injuries and mishaps stay away. Once these things happen, there are no reasons why we should not continue our winning way."
