Watson replaces injured Carpenter in 400m at Carifta Games
Anthony Carpenter has been replaced by Antonio Watson in the Under-20 boys 400m line-up at the Carifta Games in The Bahamas due to a groin injury.
Head coach of the Jamaican team, Machel Woolery told The Gleaner that the decision was taken after Carpenter's injury was discovered at a training session yesterday.
"We found out after a training session that Anthony (Carpenter) will not be able to compete in the event after finding out that he has a groin injury and as a result he will be replaced by Watson," he said.
"Carpenter, who finished second at the Carifta Trials behind Kingston College's Dashawn Morrison in the one lap event was pulled from Calabar's Class One 4x100m and 4x400m Open Relay teams, after apparently picking up an injury, after finishing second behind teammate, Christopher Taylor in the Class One 200 metres finals.
Watson, ho won the Class Two 400m event at Champs, is also the World Under-18 champion in the 400m.
The preliminary round of the Boy's Under-20 400 metres will take place tomorrow at 10:05 a.m. Jamaica time.
