Competing in Heat Two, Calabar's High Kimar Farquharson won in 1:52.86 to be the fastest qualifier going into the finals.
However, his countryman, Tarees Rhoden could only managed a sixth place finish in heat one, in a disappointing 1:58.86.
Ken Reyes of Turks and Caicos, who represented Jamaica College at the recent ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls Athletics Championships, won in 1:53.33.
There were no first round action in the other 800 metre events, due to a lack of enough entries, so the athletes moved on to straight finals.
