Carifta Games 2018 | Records, medals galore for Jamaica in sprint hurdles

It was a perfect start for Jamaica in the final session of the Flow Carifta Games in The Bahamas, as Crystal Morrison and Amoi Brown wrote their names in the record books, after winning the under-17 and under-20 100m hurdles with the island securing a quinella in both events.
Morrison, who attends St Jago got things going and was impressive, 13.11 seconds run, which erased the record held by a former St Jago High school student athlete - Melaine Walker, whose time of 13.51 was done in 1999. Ackera Nugent picked up silver after finishing second in 13.35 seconds.
Defending champion Brown retained her under-20 title in fine style. The Vere Technical senior maintained her good form this season, showing excellent technique in winning in 13.15 seconds and in the process erased the old mark of another Jamaican, Samantha Elliot, who had clocked 13.42 seconds.
Daszay Freeman made secured another one-two for Jamaica after finishing second in 13.39 seconds.
The boys also delivered gold medal winning performances in the sprint relays with Calabar's Orlando Bennett ensuring back-to-back titles, after taking the boys 110m hurdles event in 13.35 seconds.
Bennett had to run on strongly in the back end of the race to catch leader Jeanice Laviolette close to the finish line, as the Guadeloupe athlete clocked 13.52 seconds for the silver medal spot with another Jamaican, Brighton Senior finishing fifth in 13.76 seconds.
Early, Jamaica enjoyed another quinella in the boys under-17 event, as Vashaun Vascianna followed up on the double records by the girls, by producing a new mark of 13.60 seconds to take the gold .His teammate, who is also his training partner at St. Jago High, Jahvel Granville finished second in 13.70 seconds.
