Jamaica out of CWI U15 title race
Hosts Jamaica were eliminated from the Cricket West Indies Under-15 Championship title race after going down by four runs to leaders Guyana at Port Esquivel yesterday.
Set a victory target of 182 after restricting the Guyanese to 181 for six, Jamaica in reply could only manage 177 for six off their allotted 50 overs.
The result saw Guyana moving to four wins in as many matches, while the defeat put Jamaica at two wins and two defeats with one round of matches remaining in the six-team round-robin championship.
Defending champions Barbados, in the meantime, kept their hopes of retaining the title alive when they defeated the Leeward Islands by 150 runs.
Guyana and Barbados, ironically, will meet in the final round at Kensington Park in what should be a winner-takes-all affair.
The other match of the fourth round saw Trinidad and Tobago recording a 47 runs win over the Windwards Island at Windalco.
At Port Esquivel, Guyana won the toss and elected to bat and were led to their total by batsmen Zeynul Ramsammy, 72, and Romel Datterdeen, 43.
Sherwayne Thomas, three for 33, led the way for Jamaica in the field.
Jamaica, in response then got a superb start with openers Jordon Johnson and Adrian Weir putting on a century stand for the opening wicket.
However, with the score on 112 without loss in 32nd over, Weir fell for 48, and shortly after with the score of 125 for one, Johnson for a well-played 54.
Their batting then fell away with Javon Nembhard, 19, and in-form captain Sanjay Walker, eight, being among the next best scorers.
Jeremey Sandia four for 29 spearheaded the Guyanese bowling with Jonathan Rampersad two for 25 providing support.
