Barbados retained their Cricket West Indies Under-15 Championship crown after defeating Guyana by four wickets in the final round at Kensington Park yesterday.

Guyana, batting first, were dismissed for a competitive 206 on the back of 98 from Mavendra Dindyal and 24 from Romel Datterdeen.

Jaden Leacock, Rashan Worrell and Tariq O'Neale claimed two wickets each.

Barbados, in reply, achieved their target 207 for six with Nimar Bolden getting 43.

The victory moved Barbados to a record of four wins and a loss, the same as Guyana. However, by virtue of having more pace bowling points, they were crowned victors.

Elsewhere, Jamaica's dismal form for the past four years in the championship continued when they went down by three wickets to the Windward Islands at Chedwin Park.

The defeat left the Phillip Service-coached unit with a record of two wins and three defeats. Jamaica were bowled out for 164 off 47.2 overs with the in-form Jordon Johnson topscoring with 43 and Sherwayne Thomas finishing unbeaten on 27.

Winward response

The Windwards thereafter responded with 169 for seven off 46.2 overs with 3.4 overs remaining. All-rounder Johnson, bowling leg-spin, took two for 25.

Jamaica, prior to this season, finished sixth, fifth and sixth in the six-team championship.

Meanwhile, at Melbourne Oval, the Leeward Islands ended the tournament of a high scoring a narrow five runs win over Trinidad and Tobago.

The Leewards first made 132 off 49.3 overs before returning to bpwl out Trinidad for 127 with one delivery remaining.
