Whitmore back in charge of Reggae Boyz

The Ministry of Sports has announced that Theodore 'Tappa' Whitmore has returned to his role as head coach of the national senior men's football team, following a meeting between the government and the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) this afternoon.

Whitmore resigned from his role a week ago, after reportedly feeling disrespected by the JFF. This was because of a contract offered to him for the role on a permanent basis, which he felt was not satisfactory.

In a statement released today, the ministry said that the two parties agreed in the meeting that Whitmore would withdraw his recently submitted resignation and continue as head coach of the national team; the JFF will offer Whitmore a new contract; and all issues between the former national player and the JFF are now considered settled.

JFF president Michael Ricketts had told The Gleaner on Monday that the Federation would be meeting with sports minister Olivia Grange, as well as members of the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica, to seek assistance in improving the salary on offer in the proposed contract.
