Peart promises more JC success

Newly appointed head coach of Jamaica College's (JC) Manning Cup team Andrew Peart, said he plans to continue the school's dominance in Jamaican high school football competitions.

Peart, who has been the assistant coach at JC for the past three years, replaces Miguel Coley, who left the Old Hope Road-based institution in December, after leading them to their fifth straight Manning Cup title last season.

Peart told The Gleaner in an interview yesterday, that his aim is to continue the school's rich history in local high school football.

"My focus here is to continue the winning tradition that the school has laid down throughout its history," said Peart. "However, to win you have to perform and you have to work hard and we will continue to make our players to be excellent footballers and good human beings."

Peart, who is also an assistant coach of Red Stripe Premier League outfit UWI FC, said he is very delighted with his elevation to the top post but dismissed the idea that he will face added pressure given the success of his predecessor.

No pressure

"There is not going to be any pressure on me because just like if you are a father, you are responsible for a child and so as the coach you are responsible for the football team," Peart said.

"It is a good step for me to be elevated as head coach. It means that I have done some things right during my time as the assistant coach of Jamaica College," Peart said.

Principal of JC, Wayne Robinson said he has a lot of confidence in Peart's ability and so is very optimistic that he will do well.

"He has been the understudy for the Coley for the past three years ." said Robinson.

"JC is always a pressure school where sports and academics is concerned but I have a lot of confidence in Peart's ability."
