Foster deserves national call-up - Gordon

Humble Lion's head coach Merron Gordon said he is disappointed with the decision by the senior Reggae Boyz coaching staff to overlooked striker Craig Foster for their friendly international matches against St Kitts and Nevis and Antigua and Barbuda.

The 25-year-old Foster, who made the switch from Reno to Humble Lion in January, was the leading scorer in this season's Red Stripe Premier League competition with 17 goals.

However, despite Foster's goalscoring prowess this season, he did not find favour with the Reggae Boyz coaching staff.

Arnett Gardens' Fabian Reid, who finished second in the scoring chart with 16 goals and Portmore United's Javon East with 15 goals, were both selected ahead of Foster in the national team.

Disappointed

"I am disappointed, but I know it is a national setup and so I am wondering if it because we didn't make it to the play-offs and the player wasn't active in the latter part of the tournament and so I am wondering if that is a factor," said Gordon, whose team finished eight in this season's Premier League competition.

"I know that they have other international dates coming up and so hopefully they should call him, because he was the leading scorer in the Premier League and age is also on his side and so I think he should be a part of the setup," he said.

"It is a sad feeling, but at the same time it is a national setup and so sometimes, you have to wait and see. I know that good sense will prevail because he is the leading scorer and so at least a call-up is necessary for him to show what he can do for the country," Gordon said.

Gordon added that Foster, who is now on vacation in the United States, possesses all the necessary requirements that is needed to succeed in the national programme.

"He has been scoring a lot of goals since he was 18-years-old and so I don't see any reason for anybody to doubt his talent," Gordon said.

The Reggae Boyz defeated St Kitts and Nevis 3-1 on Friday and will face Antigua and Barbuda on Monday.
