Waite lauds young Boyz

National senior men's football team interim head coach Jerome Waite praised his group of young local-based players for their performances in their friendly international wins again St Kitts and Nevis and Antigua and Barbuda over the last week.
Jamaica dismissed St Kitts and Nevis 3-1 last Thursday in St Kitts, then defeated Antigua and Barbuda 2-0 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.
"The youngsters have done well in the two games against St Kitts and Nevis and also Antigua and Barbuda. These are good opportunities as they need more international games to gain experience," Waite said on his return to the island yesterday. "We want them to see what competition outside of Jamaica is all about, and it only can help in the development of the players.
"They applied themselves tactically and otherwise, because in both games, it was two different tactical adjustments. The players followed the instructions, and we were able to get the desired results."
GOOD EXPERIENCE
With regards to his first time in charge of the senior team, the Arnett Gardens head coach said it was a wonderful experience.
"It was a good experience for me in the interim head coach role," he concluded. "I won't single out anyone, they played as a team and fought as a unit and that is the way forward."
Jamaica are in preparation for the upcoming inaugural CONCACAF League of Nations, which starts in September with a one-off qualifying phase. The group phase, consisting of three tiered leagues, will kick off in 2019. The top league will end with a final to crown the Nations League champion, and the competition will also serve to unify the qualifying path for the region's national teams to the newly expanded Gold Cup.
