Carter to know fate next week

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is expected to announce its decision on Nesta Carter's appeal by the end of this month.

The Gleaner understands that the veteran Jamaican sprinter will know his fate, with the panel set to rule on his Beijing 2008 disqualification, which came after his sample from the Games returned traces of the banned substance methylhexaneamine after it was retroactively tested in 2016, as part of an International Olympic Committee - ordered reanalysis programme.

Carter's disqualification meant that Jamaica was stripped of the men's 4x100m gold medal from the Beijing Games.

The team actually crossed the line in a then world record time of 37.10 seconds, with Carter running the first leg.

The other members of the team were Usain Bolt, Michael Frater, and Asafa Powell.

Carter presented his appeal to CAS last November during a seven-hour hearing in Lausanne, Switzerland.
