Fraser Pryce statue to be unveiled by month end

The statue of sprinting star Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce is to be unveiled at the end of the track and field season this month end.

Sports Minister Olivia Grange said the statue is now in Jamaica.

She also says Fraser Pryce has seen the maquette and is quite pleased with it.

Grange was speaking Tuesday at the launch function for the 2018 National Junior and Senior Championships scheduled for the National Stadium from June 21 to 24 at the Pegasus hotel.

Fraser Pryce's statue will be erected close to that of Usain Bolt in Statue Park near the National Stadium.

In the meantime, Grange has announced that the Cabinet has approved the installation of a new running track at Stadium East.

She said the new track will also be installed at the end of the season.

Grange also announced that under a technical cooperation agreement between Jamaica and the People’s Republic of China, at the end of June, 137 athletes in seven disciplines would be leaving for China for two months.

"Each team will have a coach and a sports officer and they will return to Jamaica with equipment for their sports, donated by China," Grange said.
