Swimming star Alia Atkinson yesterday added another bronze medal to her and Jamaica's tally at the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in Barranquilla, Colombia - her fifth and the island's sixth at the championship.

Competing in the 50m freestyle final, Atkinson touched the wall at 25.47 seconds to finish in third place behind homegirl Isabella Arcila Hurtado, 25.11 seconds and Mexico's Liliana Ibanes Lopez, 25.15 seconds.

The world renowned swimmer - Jamaica's female team captain in Colombia, has also won gold in the 100m and 50m breaststroke events, as well as the 50m butterfly, along with bronze in the 100m butterfly, demonstrating her impressive range in the pool. Jamaica's other medal so far is a bronze in men's singles squash, which was won by male co-captain Chris Binnie.

Meanwhile, Jamaica squash team is assured of at least another bronze medal in men's team action, after the trio of Binnie, Bruce Burrowes and Lewis Walters all recorded wins over their Cayman Islands opponents to secure a 3-0 win and a place in the semi-final. This followed an earlier victory over Guyana, which ended in a 2-1 result in favour of the Jamaicans.

Emily MacDonald swam fifth in the B final of the women's 50m freestyle in a time of 26.48 seconds. The event went to Curacao's Chade Nersicio, 26.14, who finished ahead of Catherine Cooper Gomez of Panama (26.27) and Venezuela's Fabiana Pesce Flores, 26.42.

It was a rough day for Jamaican boxers with lightweight Sanjay Williams and Welterweight Joshua Frazer both going down 5-0 in their Round of 16 bouts to Alberto Figueroa (Puerto Rico) and Abraham Mora Calderon (Cuba) respectively.

Things also didn't go well for the male hockey team, which lost 3-0 to Trinidad and Tobago in their latest preliminary contest on the back of a brace from midfielder Akim Toussaint.
