Reggae Boyz to face Ecuador next month

Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) General Secretary Dalton Wint said that his organisation has secured a friendly international against Ecuador, just two days before the CONCACAF Nations League opener.

Jamaica's Reggae Boyz, who are 54th on the FIFA Coca/Cola World Ranking, are scheduled to play the world number 60th- ranked South Americans on September 7 at Red Bull Arena in New Jersey, USA.

Two days later, the Jamaicans will tackle the Cayman Islands in the inaugural CONCACAF Nations League at the National Stadium in Kingston.

STRONG SQUAD

Wint pointed out that it will be no problem for the Reggae Boyz as they have a strong squad that can play both games.

"It won't be a Tier 1 game (not a match which counts towards world rankings, therefore the team will be rotated) against Ecuador, as we have written to FIFA. We have enough depth in the squad. Our main objective is the Nations League," Wint said.

"Both teams (Jamaica) will be strong, but the coach has his tactics on who to play. We will be training in the United States, then come home for the Nations League opener against Cayman Islands on September 9 at the National Stadium. Both games are definitely on," he confirmed.

The Reggae Boyz have played Ecuador three times, losing 2-1 in 1996, then drawing the next two games 0-0 in 2009 and 2011.

Prior to the game against Ecuador, the Reggae Boyz will play away to Grenada on August 17 and Barbados on August 20.
