Three teams medals for Jamaica at Pre-Cadet TT Champs
Jamaica battled their way to three medals at the Caribbean Region Table Tennis Mini and Pre-Cadet Championship in the Dominican Republic earlier this week.
The girls' Under-11 and -13 teams were one win each away from gold, with Tsenaye Lewis and Kelsey Davidson solid, and the boys Under-11 chipped in with a bronze medal. The home team was dominant with three wins.
Lewis anchored Jamaica's 3-1 win over Puerto Rico and the hosts and with Naveah Scott and Le-Ann Smith, the Under-11 girls also dispatched Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana 3-0. However, the gold was lost when the Dominican Republic slammed Jamaica 3-0. Lewis resisted but lost a thriller to Ariana Estrella 11-8, 12-14, 9-11, 11-8, 9-11.
In similar manner, 2016 Under-11 runner-up Davidson scored two wins each in Jamaica's 3-1 successes over Guyana, the Dominican Republic A team and Trinidad and Tobago when she fought past the girl who beat her in 2016, Priyanka Khellawan. Davidson, Giana Lewis and Olivia Peterkin were, however, swept 3-0 by Puerto Rico, and had to settle for silver.
Last year, Jamaica had won both girls' team titles.
Led by inform Azizi Johnson, Jamaica finished third in the boys Under-11 event.
The Dominican Republic took both girls team events and the boys Under-13.
The tournament, which was held in Jamaica in 2016 and 2017, continues with individual events. It ends on August 31.
