San Antonio Spurs sign 2nd-round pick Metu

 

SAN ANTONIO (AP) :

The San Antonio Spurs have signed forward Chimezie Metu, the team's second-round draft pick out of Southern California.

The 6-foot-11 Metu, the 49th overall pick, averaged a team-high 15.9 points for the Trojans along with 7.4 rebounds and 1.74 blocks in 31 minutes per game. He recently played with San Antonio in the 2018 NBA Summer League, averaging 11.4 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 21.4 minutes in five appearances.

Over his three-year career at USC, he averaged 12.3 points and 6.3 rebounds in 27.0 minutes while shooting 53 per cent. Terms of his deal were not disclosed on Tuesday by the Spurs.

 

 

Indiana Pacer sign coach McMillan to multiyear deal

 

INDIANAPOLIS (AP):

The Indiana Pacers have signed coach Nate McMillan to a multiyear contract extension.

McMillan will enter his third season as Indiana's head coach after serving as the associate head coach for three seasons under Frank Vogel. Terms of his deal were not announced on Tuesday.

The 54-year-old McMillan has a 90-74 record and helped lead the team to the playoffs the past two seasons. He finished sixth in Coach of the Year balloting after the Pacers surprised nearly everyone earning the No. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference with a 48-34 record and then taking LeBron James and the Cavaliers to seven games in the first round of the playoffs..

"I'm really proud of what Nate and our coaching staff have done," President of Basketball Operations Kevin Pritchard said. "Nate is very deserving of this extension. We have a wonderful culture, and he has been a big part of implementing that culture. He's a dedicated leader, a very good coach, and we're lucky to have him here with the Pacers."

 

 

Weakened Denmark beaten 3-0 by Slovakia

 

TRNAVA, Slovakia (AP):

Denmark, fielding a severely weakened team containing footballers from the third tier of the national league and futsal players because of a pay dispute involving its top performers, were beaten 3-0 by Slovakia in a friendly yesterday.

Slovakia strolled to victory against a Danish side lacking star names like Christian Eriksen and Kasper Schmeichel.

Organisers dropped ticket prices to one euro because of the depleted visiting team.

Slovakia, which included leading players like Napoli midfielder Marek Hamsik and former Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel, said before the game that its squad had been harmed by the Danish dispute and asked European football's governing body UEFA to deal with the case and confer 'adequate consequences'.
