Yona feeling the difference in Edinburgh

"I made a diving decision to train in Edinburgh for the remainder of the Olympic cycle. This is because of the growing programme up here and the quality of the head coach. I made the decision after the suggestion from my old (Leeds) coach Edwin Jongejons and Ady Hinchiffe that I would be able to get more consistency and attention from the coaches here, which will be really important come my competition season in 2019," he said.

"It is the first opportunity to qualify for the 2020 Olympics and it's been a huge decision at this stage of the season in the cycle. But I am working super hard in training and I am benefiting from the willing assistance from the Scottish S&C (strength and conditioning) coach, physio and nutritionist and most importantly I am enjoying my diving more than last year, so far," he continued.

Based on the progress of his training since his arrival in Scotland Knight-Wisdom believes he is on the path to making the improvements he desires.

Positive feeling

"It's making me feel more positive about myself and although there is still a long way to go, I am confident that I will be in a better position to achieve that goal (Olympic qualification) than in Leeds," he added.

Knight-Wisdom revealed that financially it has been tough but he is working to make himself and the country proud.

"I'm currently being helped by a friend in terms of accommodations until I can work out somewhere to live. Emotional support, on social media, has been incredible but financial support is still extremely limited.

"Other than Jamaica-born entrepreneur and musician Levi Roots who supports my travels and accommodation for competitions and the Olympic Solidarity Fund that comes through the Jamaica Olympic Association from the International Olympic Committee, I've got nothing else.

"It's super hard for athletes to get money but regardless I am still trying to become the best I can be and do the most I can for the country," he said.
