Frome march into daCosta second round

Frome Technical High School secured qualification for the second round of the ISSA/WATA daCosta Cup yesterday following a 1-0 win over hosts Green Island High and coach Aaron Lawrence is confident they will claim a favoured position on the seeded rankings chart despite finishing runners-up to defending champions Rusea's High in Zone B.

Alwayne Hill got the winner for Frome.

"I think we are still good. The last time I checked we were around 14th in the rankings. Winning this game and a victory in our next game will probably push us up a place or two," said Lawrence.

"The next round will be tougher but we are ready for the challenge. We know what it takes to play in the knockout phase. We did it last year against a good opposition in Munro College and we did what was required of us. So we are looking forward to getting past the second round this year," he added.

"Hats off to the boys, they have done well throughout the season. They have put us in a position that we can build from and move from strength to strength, so we are grateful for that."

Despite a hard-fought encounter with Green Island that was aided by Geovanni Watson's red card in the first half, Lawrence said they were always confident of getting a positive result.

"I know we have a strong team so even if we went down these boys would lift themselves up. We have done it on more than one occasion, against Green Island in the first leg and then against Rusea's," Lawrence said.

Petersfield High also secured qualification to the second round topping Zone D after thrashing Knockalva Technical 5-1 at the Petersfield Community Field. Over in Zone H, already qualified Clarendon College continued their perfect run with a 5-1 win over Kellits High.
