Freckleton nets five for Calabar in 12-0 romp

Brendon Freckleton netted a five-timer to lead Calabar to a 12-0 victory over Ardenne High in Group B and a spot in the second round of the ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup competition yesterday.

Freckleton netted his goals in the second, ninth, 13th, 30th, and 50th minutes to help the Red Hills Road-based school secure one of two best third-place spots in the second round of the competition.

Calabar finished third in the group with 19 points, behind table-toppers Kingston College (30), who recorded a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Mona (22).

David Lalor, coach of Calabar, was pleased with his team's performance.

"For me, it was about trying to get the guys to focus because we were expected to win this game, and we did that, so I am pleased with the result," said Lalor.

Innswood secured the other best third-place spot in the second round after playing to a 0-0 draw with St Jago.

Innswood ended third in the Group D with 17 points, behind Denham Town, who topped of the group with 26 points after their 2-1 win over St Jago (22).
