Sunshine Girls aim to whitewash England

Jamaica's Sunshine Girls will be aiming to whitewash rivals England Roses when both teams meet in game three of the Three-Test Lasco Sunshine Series at the National Indoor Sports Centre this evening. The Jamaicans, who have won the first two matches, lead the series 2-0 after their impressive 58-39 win on Saturday at the same venue.

The Sunshine Girls, who are ranked fourth in the world, two places behind the Roses, also won the opening match 55-43 last Thursday. Head coach Marvette Anderson said they will be going all out for the win today.

"We are coming for this victory," said Anderson. "But I know that England are still not going to give up, because they are 2-0 down and I'm sure that they want to go away with some pride. I know that the game will be as intense as it has been from the beginning," Anderson said.

The Sunshine Girls' defensive unit, led by Shamera Sterling, Stacian Facey and Vangelee Williams, has been excellent throughout the series and Anderson noted that she will be banking on these players to carry them through. "We will continue to work on our defence and our decision making when we have the ball," said Anderson. "However, we will be ready defensively and there is no doubt about it because we have persons coming in ready to play," she said.

England's captain Jade Clarke said her team will have to play much better if the are going to win today's match. We are going to do everything we can to turn this around," said Clarke. We are a really good team that can bounce back because we have done this before, so we are going to be really fighting," she said.

This evening's game starts at 6:30 p.m.
