Walker, Cardenas to double up

RESURGENCE has not been hard trained for his debut run at Caymanas Park tomorrow but has the pedigree to get the better of a very moderate bunch in the opening event of the Sunrise-Six.

The three-year-old grey colt is by He'stherealthing - Money Spinner, which makes him a full brother to the very useful Vision, out of the barn of champion trainer Wayne DaCosta. As a two-year-old in 2015, Vision won at odds of 16-1, upsetting his more illustrious stable companion Dreamliner, who went off the 1-5 favourite in an 1100-metre race.

 

Another Upset

 

Just over a year later, on October 8, 2016, Vision pulled off another upset in the Ronron Trophy, beating Classy Aviator and Pure Amazement, while clocking 1:12.1 for 1200 metres.

Trained by Ian Parsard, RESURGENCE had two good workouts of 48.4 for 800m on October 7 and 1:16.2 for 1200m on October 14. With his preparation complete and the champion jockey Omar Walker aboard, the P. J. K Team-owned colt is expected to make an impressive debut.

DaCosta's United States-bred two-year-old pair of AMERICAN INVADER and STRANGER DANGER will decide the second race. Both have been working very well with the first-time runner, STRANGER DANGER, the more impressive of the two. On October 13, the colt breezed 1100m in 1:06.1 while filly AMERICAN INVADER stopped the clock at 1:06.3.

I am, however, taking the filly to complete the first double for DaCosta's stable jockey Walker. She has the raceday experience. On September 1, she outclassed some of the best local two-year-olds, clocking a minute flat for 1000 metres round and appears set to go all the way.

CERASINI has been the runner-up in her last three starts and trainer Tensang Chung must be becoming a bit impatient with his three -year-old filly as she went off an odds-on favourite on October 6 but had her colours lowered by NYOKA CLASSIC in a 1200m race. The selection for the third is better suited by the milder pace of tomorrow's 1300m event, and with Dick Cardenas riding in very good form, CERASINI should finally shed her maiden tag at very short odds.

The fourth could prove to be very competitive despite the relatively small field, which will go to post for the 1600m race. BALLON D'OR has won his previous two starts impressively and was claimed out of the last race by trainer Anthony Nunes for owner Barsher.

At age six, he is showing very good form, but I will bypass him in favour of STIR IT UP.

 

Final Placing

 

Her final placing, sixth by 18 lengths, does not reflect how well the six-year-old mare ran last Saturday. She was up with the pace for a long way among $550,000 claimers in very fast splits. Now dropped to $450,000, the level where she had her last success, STIR IT UP could well lead all the way and close a double for Cardenas.

LADY CARMEN should romp the fifth with crack apprentice Tevin Foster aboard, while the consistent BLACK POINT is expected get off the mark in the sixth for three-year-old maidens.
