Khachanov stuns Djokovic to win 1st Paris Masters title

PARIS (AP):

Karen Khachanov upset a tired-looking Novak Djokovic 7-5, 6-4 to win the Paris Masters title and deprive Djokovic of the chance yesterday to match Rafael Nadal's record of 33 Masters titles.

Djokovic, a record four-time champion at the indoor event, looked out of energy after an epic three-hour semi-final win against Roger Federer on Saturday.

After also being taken to three sets by Marin Cilic in Friday's quarter-finals, Djokovic's semi-final finished at around 8 p.m. (3 p.m. Jamaica time), and he felt he was unable to recover sufficiently from that draining encounter.

Ethiopia's Desisa, Kenya's Keitany win NYC Marathon

NEW YORK (AP):

Mary Keitany of Kenya and Lelisa Desisa of Ethiopia won the New York City Marathon yesterday, with Keitany dominating the strong women's field for her fourth victory in the event and Desisa surging ahead of two other runners near the finish line.

Desisa, 28, held off countryman Shura Kitata by 1.99 seconds for his first win in New York, joining victories at the Boston Marathon in 2013 and 2015. He finished second in New York in 2014 and third in 2015 and 2017.

Desisa finished in 2 hours, 5 minutes, and 59 seconds, the second-fastest time for the course in history. Geoffrey Mutai of Kenya set the record of 2:05:05 in 2011. Last year's winner, Geoffrey Kamworor of Kenya, finished third on yesterday.
