Williams among IAAF's Rising Star finalists

Jamaica's Briana Williams, a double gold medallist at this year's World Under-20 Championships in Tampere, Finland is among five athletes short listed for the IAAF's Female Rising Star Award.

The winner of the award will be announced at the IAAF Athletics Awards 2018 in Monaco on Tuesday, December 4.

Williams first won the 100 metres in 11.16 seconds before completing the sprint double with a championship record and personal best time of 22.50 in the 200m. The time bettered the 22.53 set by Anthonique Strachan of The Bahamas in Barcelona, Spain in 2012.

Williams is also the Carifta Games Under-17 champion at both sprints and 4x100m.

• The other finalists are Ethiopia's Meseret Belete who has the World Under-20 best at half marathon with 1:07:51.

• Celliphine Chespol of Kenya World Under-20 champion and world Under-20 lead at 3000m steeplechase with 9:01.82. She also has steeplechase silvers at the Commonwealth Games and African Championships.

• Meskerem Mamo of Ethiopia has World Under-20 leads at 3000m and 5000m with 8:33.63 and 15:05.21, respectively.

• American Sydney McLaughlin has clocked two world Under-20 bests or records at both 400m hurdles and indoor 400m with 52.75 and 50.36, respectively.
