Cardenas to make merry in Sunrise-Six

BROOKLYN will surely be running only against the clock in tomorrow's first race, an 1100 metres event for $450,000 claimers.

Nine will face the starter in this opening event of the Sunrise-Six and the Anthony Smith-trained five-year-old mare has an easy task to notch her fifth win in 26 starts. In her last run on September 29 in overnight allowance company, BROOKLYN was just ten lengths off the Wayne DaCosta-trained Without Exception, one of the most improved horses in training. Since crossing the line in 1:13.0 to win over 1200m on September 29, Without Exception has clocked 1:05.2 for 1100m (placed second), 1:18.3 over 1300m (second) and then won the Invitational Mile on Burger King Superstakes Day in 1:37.1. BROOKLYN has therefore kept very good company. She has not competed in well over a month but advertised her well being with a 36.0 flat work for 600m on November 3 and is ready for a big run.

Panamanian Dick Cardenas has been chasing Anthony Thomas for a long time in the jockeys' championship and now he is just eight behind. The gap should be seven after tomorrow's second race. Cardenas rides UNBREAKABLE who has dropped two levels down to the $210,000 claiming group and at 52.0kg is just too light to lose this 1500 metres event. UNBREAKABLE led the $450,000 claiming group for 800m of a 1600m race on October 20 clocking a final time of 1:43.4 behind the winner's 1:39. 4. Nothing in this field can match the seven-year-old gelding's 47.2x1:12.2 1200m metres splits for that race and he will be a lonely winner.

DANCING QUEEN, with former champion jockey Dane Nelson in the saddle, should also use her superior speed to get away from rivals in the third. The majority of the eight-horse field are middle distance horses with none having the speed to test Errol Waugh's five-year-old mare on the headlines. PRINCESS EMANUELLE does have pace but is much too heavy at 57kg to mount a challenge. The last time she tackled this 1200m distance in mid-year DANCING QUEEN lost by just three quarters of a length to Bilingual as she finished in a final time of 1:12.4.

The fourth is over 1300m for $180,000 claimers and has attracted a full field of 16 runners. CONCUR who won over the distance on October 13 clocking a good 1:22.1 should use his superior fitness to get the better of rivals. ALSO CORRECT who has dropped down to this level with just 51kg on his back, courtesy of apprentice Raddesh Roman's 4kg claim, should also run well.

Take Cardenas to close out the Sunrise-Six with newcomer UNIVERSAL BOSS in the fifth and FRIENDLY NEIGHBOUR in Race Six.
