Harbour View Football Club administrator Ludlow Bernard has confirmed that Ricardo Gardner, this evening, tendered his resignation, as head coach of the Red Stripe Premier League outfit.

The club will meet in the coming days to make a decision on a long-term replacement for the former Bolton Wanderers star, but it has also been confirmed, that assistant coach Fabian Taylor, will take charge of the team for their next RSPL fixture against Waterhouse on Wednesday at the Harbour View Stadium.

Gardner, who was appointed by the four-time national champions to the head coach position in June 2017, has struggled on the Harbour View bench, with the team languishing at the bottom of the standings, tied in 10th place in the 12 team competition this season.

Harbour View, have managed just two wins, while tasting defeat six times and holding seven draws so far in the 2018/2019 RSPL campaign, after finishing last season's regular season fixtures in fifth position, before being eliminated by Waterhouse in the first round of the play-offs.

Bernard told The Gleaner that the club is surprised by Gardner's decision.

"Of course it (Gardner's resignation) is a surprise, we never expected it. Based on how our club operates, it is surprise," said Bernard. "Of course we were willing to stick with him (Gardner) and see if he could turn it around. For right now, Fabian Taylor is responsible for the game on Wednesday. We as a body will have to sit and talk (about long term replacement)."

Gardner, a former star player at Harbour View before his transfer to the English club, reportedly delivered his resignation yesterday evening, forcing a cancellation of a scheduled training session at the east Kingston club.

Bernard, who recently led Kingston College to the ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup title, was earlier today, tipped to return to the head coaching job, which he incidentally vacated for Gardner.

The experienced coach was, however, quick to point out that he is not interested, at this time, in taking up the position, but will provide all necessary support to the efforts to turn around the season.
