Shortwood Teachers' College created history recently when they won the intercollegiate female football title for the first time. They defeated former champions. The University of Technology (UTech) 2-1 in extra time at the Harbour View Stadium.

The Roy Ferguson-coached team had to come from behind for their win. UTech took an 18th- minute lead with a Janelle Graham goal but Shortwood replied in the 34th minute with a strike from Asheka Hamilton. With the teams locked at 1-1 at full-time, an own goal in extra time was enough to clinch victory for Shortwood.

Ferguson, the head coach at UTech when they won the title in 2010, was very happy with his team's historic win.

"After a five-year programme I am very elated. In the first year we finished eighth. We were also eighth in the second year but improved to fourth in the third year. Now, to come out on top, it is a great achievement," said Ferguson.

The Greg Garrel KO male title was decided on the same day with The University of West Indies emerging 2-1 winners over Caribbean Maritime University.

The intercol football season will come to an end today at the Harbour View Stadium with the playing of the men's Division One and Two finals. Bethlehem Moravian College will meet Trench Town Polytechnic in Division Two action at 3 p.m. before defending champions GC Foster College face The University of West Indies in the Division One final at 5:30 p.m.
