Cavalier staying grounded - Speid

Rudolph Speid, technical director of Cavalier, says that his players have remained grounded and humble despite their 11-game unbeaten run in the Red Stripe Premier League competition.

Cavalier, who defeated Montego Bay United 2-1 in their last game on Thursday, are now second in the standings on 37 points, two behind leaders and defending champions Portmore United.

They have won four of their last five games, including victories over Portmore United, Waterhouse, and Tivoli Gardens. Speid told The Gleaner that despite his team's rich vein of form, they remain focused on the task ahead.

"We are not getting carried away because our ambition is always the same from day one, and that is to improve the team," said Speid. "We have a fantastic bunch of players and so they are not going to get head-lighted and carried away, because they know what they want to do and they are very humbled, and that is the key for us."

"These players are hungry and they love to win and they love playing the game," he said.

Speid added that despite the average age of his team being 22, his players have shown a lot of maturity and have improved greatly over the years.

"If they don't do as well as they should do in a particular game, then they are hard on themselves and so are not going to get carried away because we don't reach anywhere yet," Spied said.

"It is very pleasing to us that we are on this unbeaten run because our team is the youngest in the competition, and, in fact, we are even younger than last year," he said. "That means that learning has been taking place with the players that we have, and these players are starting to play like professionals."

Striker Alex Marshall is Cavalier's leading scorer this season with seven goals. In fact, Marshall is the second leading scorer in the competition behind Portmore United's Rondee Smith who leads with eight goals.
