Ashanti Moore of Hydel High wins Heat One of the Class One girls 200 metres, with the fastest overall time of 24.74 seconds, at the Douglas Forrest Invitational track and field meet at G.C. Foster College, yesterday.

St Jago's High's Class Three athlete, Alex Taylor, was the highlight of the JAAA/Puma/Fuller/Anderson Development meet at Kirkvine yesterday with a record run in the 800 metres.

Taylor, who was one of the stars at the Purewater/JC/R. Danny Williams meet on January 5, continued his impressive form to turn back the challenge of Kingston College's Jaquan Coke and win the event in 2:07.09 to break the 2005 record of 2:07.80 set by former Mannings High star Davion Bent. Coke clocked 2:10.81 for second, while Taughvaun Martin of Bellefield was third overall in 2:11.64.

Holmwood Technical are looking very strong. Coach Dave Anderson, who said at midweek that his girls would produce top performances at the meet, saw them living up to that promise by showing good all-round depth in winning several events.

Among the top performers for Holmwood yesterday was the talented Sashieka Steele. Competing in the Class Two 200 metres, the Girls' Champs Class Three record holder in the event blasted to an impressive 24.59 seconds, the fastest among female athletes on the day. Edwin Allen High's Bethany Bridge was second on 25.26, while Steele's teammate, Kimberly Parker, took third in 25.44.

There were also victories in Class One and Three for Holmwood. In Class One, Kishawna Wallace stopped the clock at 25.38 to finish ahead of teammate Maricia Spence (25.61). Third went to Daszay Freeman of the Queen's School in 25.69.

Attayla Wallace took the Class Three 200m in 26.17, beating Wolmer's Girls' Mikayla Gardener (26.18) and Vere Technical's Kristal Santokie, 26.45.

Edwin Allen's Xavian Harrison prevented a Holmwood sweep by taking Class Four in 26.90. Manchester High's Mickara Sutherland and Holmwood's Camio White were second and third, respectively. Both were awarded the same time, 26.95.

RECORD RUN

Holmwood's Danielle Deer produced a record run of 56.55 in the Class Two 400m. Her time erased the 56.90 set by former Holmwood athlete Anastasia LeRoy in 2005. Her teammate, Colisha Taylor, was second in 56.78, while Roshelle Rowe of Manchester High placed third in 57.46.

The former Girls' champions swept the top three places in the Class One 400m. Danielle Brisette (56.21) won ahead of Kavia Francis (56.27) and Delverna Bromfield, 57.64.

Holmwood's girls also showed their strength in the middle-distance events winning two 800 metres.

Jody Ann Mitchell took Class Three in 2:24.60, ahead of Spalding High's Kisha Rowe (2:26.16) and Edwin Allen's Leonna Lewis, third in 2:26.25.

Dahiema Williams topped Class Two in 2:24.84. Spalding's Cherice Cope was second in 2:25.92.
