Western Bureau:

Dave Black, the coach of Herbert Morrison Technical High's basketball team, is confident that the school will capture their record sixth straight ISSA Western Conference Under-16 and -19 titles after booking their spots in the final on Wednesday at the Montego Bay Cricket Club Court.

The Under-19 team whipped Rhodes Hall High 83-50. David Brown had a game-high 39 points for the winners. Javani Davis (17) got most points for Rhodes Hall.

The Under-16 team hammered York Castle 77-37, with Anthony Thorpe picking up 25 points. Lennon Richards top-scored for York Castle with 19 points.

In the other games, Cornwall College (CC) advanced to the Under-16 final, getting by Holland 58-53 despite a game-high 31 points from Holland's Flawless Travers. Romario Senior top-scored for CC with 22 points.

CC missed out on a chance to have both teams in the finals as York Castle, led by 28 points from Nadjrick Peat, defeated the Montego Bay-based school 55-50. Omar Campbell was top scorer for CC with 15 points.

"Our under-19 team is pretty young because we lost most of our players from last year. However, the team still has a lot of basketball experience because most of them have been playing together from the under-14 level," Black said.

"The under-16s are, in my view, are one of the best in the country because these guys have also been playing together since under-14. We are confident we (will) get past the western finals because our team is back to full strength and want to make a big push for the all-island title," he added.

The best of three double-header finals is set to start next Tuesday at the same venue.
