Moncriffe vows to fight on

Hit by the twin blows of the cancellation of the Wray & Nephew Contender series, and the loss of his trainer Chris Brown, Devon ‘Concrete” Moncriffe is now contemplating his future.

The 2013 Contender Series champion, still reeling from the shock of the murder of his coach, is interested in enlisting the tutelage of Richard ‘Shrimpy’ Clarke, or Joseph Harrison.

“That man (Brown) could take you from 0 to 100,” he said. “He was a really great coach, even now I am still feeling sick. I am looking to start training with either ‘Shrimpy’ or Harrison and see what is possible from there.”

The fighter, remaining faithful to his unrelenting ‘pressure style’ of boxing, remained optimistic while vowing to persevere in a year in which Jamaican boxing saw the cancellation of its most popular event.

“Right now, I am seeing if I can make some fights. If I cannot get any fights here, I will have to look overseas, whether Canada or the United States.”

Recent reports suggested that plans were underway for the 42-year-old to face off with Richard ‘Frog’ Holmes, a fight which is now shadowed in doubt.

“Chris was looking into a fight between me and ‘Frog’ (Richard Holmes), but now Chris gone. The deal is against the rocks right now, but I still would like to see it happen,” the boxer said.
