Manchester hit back on day two of Headley Cup final

A 133-run seventh wicket partnership between overnight batsmen André Morgan and Wavel Anniford lifted Manchester High to a 27-run first innings lead over St Elizabeth Technical (STETHS) on yesterday’s second day of the ISSA/Grace Headley Cup final at the STETHS Sports Complex.

Replying to STETHS’ 187, Manchester were all out for 214.

Morgan, who resumed on his overnight 32 went on to top score with 85 and while Anniford was out for 56. Andre McCarthy was the pick of the STETHS bowlers grabbing five for 29. He was backed up by Roberto Simpson’s two for 43.

At close of play yesterday STETHS were on 117 for four, a lead of 90 going into today’s third and final day.

Zavier Barton will resume batting on 35 with night-watchman Andre Blake unbeaten on 10. Jerome Jones (32) also got among the runs. Manchester’s André Morgan picked up two for 30.

Morgan, the captain of Manchester High, André Morgan was very pleased with the first innings lead. “When we started batting today (Thursday) it was more difficult than yesterday but as the game progressed, things got easier. The ball started coming on to the bat easier so we passed the total and got the lead,” Morgan said.

Captain of STETHS, Zavier Barton, blamed indiscipline in the field for his team’s present position. He is, however, confident they will get it right today to grab their sixth straight title.

“I think we put ourselves on the back foot but if we can see off the first hour and bat through the first session that should put us in a good position. From there I know the bowlers are capable of us getting the win,” Barton said.
