DOHA2019| Fraser-Pryce, Thompson lead hunt for more medals today
Jamaican sprinters Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce, Elaine Thompson and Jonielle Smith will look to add to Jamaica's medal count as the IAAF World Athletics Championships continues today from Doha, Qatar.
The semi-finals of the women's 100m will commence at 1:20pm with Pryce, Thompson and Smith hoping to secure their places in the final later this afternoon at 3:20pm.
The first semi final will see Thompson line up in lane four. She won her heat yesterday in 11.14 seconds and will face formidable opposition in the Ivorian Marie Ta-Lou.
Pryce, the three-time world champion, ran a blistering 10.80 in her first round heat yesterday and faces a stacked field in the third semi final which includes Holland's Dafne Schippers and the defending champion Tori Bowie of the United States. Smith, who ran 11.20 in her first round heat, will line up in lane nine in the second semi-final.
After a disappointing fifth place finish in the Men's 100m final yesterday, Yohan Blake will hope for better fortune in the Men's 200m when the first round commences at 12:05pm. Joining Blake in the event will be Rasheed Dwyer who will be in heat five and Andre Ewers in heat seven. Blake will line up in heat three running in lane eight.
Jamaica's mixed relay team will also be vying to be on the medal podium in the inaugural Mixed 4x400m final at 2:35pm. The quartet of Nathon Allen, Javon Francis, Janieve Russell and Roneisha McGregor qualified in third place in their first round heat yesterday in 3:12:73 seconds, setting a national record.
