Jamaica’s College’s (JC) head coach Davion Ferguson said they will not be taking anything for granted when they host Greater Portmore in their Group E encounter in the ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup at the Ashenheim Stadium at 5 p.m.

JC currently lead the group with 19 points, two ahead of Wolmer’s after seven rounds of matches played by both teams.

However, the Heroes Circle-based institution hold a slight edged over JC after their first round match was called off with Wolmer’s leading 2-1 with six minutes remaining. This was after lightening struck five players, two from JC and three Wolmer’s during their match at the Stadium East field on September 16.

Vauxhall are third in the group on 13 points, followed by Greater Portmore, eight, Tarrant, seven, Jose Marti, five, and Innswood, zero.

JC, who won five consecutive Manning Cup titles from 2013-2017, should be full of confidence entering today’s match after their 10-0 victory over Greater Portmore in their previous contest.

Ferguson said today’s game will be crucial for the team as they look to extend their lead atop the group.

“It is a game that we really want to win based on where the group is now,” Ferguson said. “In terms of trying to gain the ascendancy, we have to maintain what we have, so we are definitely aiming to get three points.

“We might have won our first game against them 10-0, but I know that they are not going to come and lie down and play dead, so we have to respect them and we have to go and play for the result.”

Ferguson said his charges are pumped for today’s encounter as they look to put on a good showing in front of their home fans.

“We are playing at home, so we are definitely expecting a good performance from the boys because the boys are looking forward to this challenge,” he said.
