Veronica Campbell-Brown statue to be unveiled in minutes
Prime Minister Andrew Holness is to unveil the life-size statue of outstanding female sprinter Veronica Campbell-Brown in a matter of minutes.
The statue is mounted in the Statue Park at the National Stadium in Kingston.
The unveiling ceremony, which is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m., comes after Sport Minister Olivia Grange received the ‘all clear’ from Campbell-Brown when she was presented with the maquette (a small model used by the sculptor which the actual statue is based on) of the piece on Thursday, September 12.
The Campbell-Brown statue is the third of four statues in tribute to outstanding Jamaican athletes, that are being designed by the Ministry of Sport as part of its Jamaica 55 Legacy programme.
The first two statues of Usain Bolt and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce were unveiled in 2017 and 2018, respectively. The statue of former world’s fastest man, Asafa Powell, the last in the series, is being finalised.
