A tense battle is expected in this year’s Intercol Senior netball competition as defending champions Mico University College, The University of the West Indies (UWI), G.C. Foster College and the University of Technology (UTech) will be in a dog fight for top honours.

After dominating for the past seven years, Mico will be under pressure to retain their title, even as they will be without several of their top players this season. These includes former national senior team captain Jhaniele Fowler and her national senior teammate, Kadie-Ann Dehaney.

Despite playing with a new-look team this season, Mico are off to a good start after winning their first two matches. First, they took care of their ‘B’ team 34-20 before turning back a strong UTech team 40-35. With national senior players goal attack Shanice Beckford and goal defence Jodiann Ward in their line-up, UTech are favoured to get the better of Mico after beating them in the finals of the opening rally recently. UTech led for the first three quarters before Mico rallied well in the final quarter to snatch the win.

Favourites UWI, with goal keeper Latonya Wilson, goal attack Amanda Pinkney, and centre Abigaile Sutherland in its line up, have a run of two from two. UWI first got by its ‘B’ team 33-25 before blowing away Moneague College 52-19 at the weekend.

Led by former National Under- 21 player goal attack Kestina Sturridge and centre Bianca Samuels, G.C. Foster got by their ‘B’ team 36-24 in their only match played so far.
