This season’s ISSA Champions Cup is set to kick off with a bang tomorrow at 4 p.m. as the Xavier Gilbert-coached Dinthill Technical is set to square off with Excelsior High in the opening match of a double-header at the Stadium East field.

Gilbert, who is the current sports master at Excelsior High, says the encounter, on the outset, may be conflicting, however, there will be no love lost tomorrow and Excelsior should expect a tough contest.

“It’s going to be a tough match, and to be honest, I was not looking for this draw, but it is what it is and we have to go out there and give it our all”, said Gilbert.

In the second match at 6 p.m., defending champions Clarendon College will face off with 2016 Champions Cup winners Wolmer’s Boys.

Kingston College, winners in 2017, have drawn the resurgent and resolute Garvey Maceo High in a mouth-watering clash, and coach Ludlow Bernard says he will be going for all trophies on offer this season.

“It’s going to be a fantastic matchup,” he said. “Two attacking teams against two aggressive coaches, and it is building up to be an epic encounter.”

Clash for the ages

Garvey Maceo coach Merron Gordon believes the clash will be one that his team will relish.

“It’s going to be a good experience for the kids. It’s a football game. We are playing a tough school, big school, but I believe in the ability of my boys, and we are coming to Kingston to put on a good show,” Gordon said.

Day two of the Champions Cup, on Saturday, will see matches played simultaneously at the Montego Bay Sports Complex, Stadium East in Kingston, and the St Elizabeth Technical High School Sports Complex.
