Having conceded 26 goals so far this season, Arnett Gardens head coach Alex Thomas said he will be moving swiftly in the transfer window to ensure that they sign a quality defender to improve their chances of winning the Red Stripe Premier League title this season.

Arnett are fourth in the RSPL table and have amassed 30 points, the same as Humble Lion and defending champions Portmore United, who are third and fifth respectively.

The Junglists have recorded eight wins, six draws and five defeats from their 19 matches this season.

Thomas, who took over the coaching reins from Jerome Waite at the start of the season, told The Gleaner that he is concerned about his defensive unit, saying that he will we be working assiduously to ensure that they improve on this in the new year.

“I think that we are falling short in all areas," Thomas said. "But I think most of all, we are falling short in our defensive area because we are giving up too many goals.

“There are some defenders that we are looking at the moment, but we can’t call any names as this point in time. But this is our main area of focus when the transfer window opens in January.”

Arnett Gardens were outclassed 3-0 by Dunbeholden in their last game on Sunday and Thomas said that they still have a lot of areas to improve on going forward.

"I am pleased with some aspects of our game, but there are still a lot of work to be done because we just need to start winning games more consistently,” he said.

“We want to move up higher in the table, so we just have to ensure that we continue to work a lot harder in each game that we play.”
